Here are five amazing things to do in London this weekend, no matter your mood
1: Get some affordable art
The Affordable Art Fair in Battersea is on until Sunday, with plenty of great ways to get involved in the art market without breaking the bank. Dozens of artists sell paintings, prints and much more with plenty up for grabs for under £100.
2: See a show in an incredible underground space
The Vaults performance space below Waterloo Station is one of the most atmospheric venues in the capital. Shows take place in underground caverns below the trains rumbling above and there’s food and drink too. New for March, they’re hosting a production called Plied and Prejudice, based on the Jane Austen novel. From 13 March.

3: Get outdoors (if the rain stays away)
For a high brow afternoon out with a spring theme, head to Kew Gardens, which from this Saturday 15 March is curating a music playlist to chime with the gardens’ spring blooms. Students from the Royal College of Music have composed and recorded sound to suit the various blossoms, which is all very fabulous-sounding.
4: Go to the St Patrick’s Day Parade
Taking place this Sunday 16 March, one day before the traditional St Patrick’s Day celebrations on the 17th, expect over 50,000 Irish people to turn up for the annual parade. Starting at Hyde Park Corner and heading towards Piccadilly and eventually Whitehall, there will be dancing, Irish food and floats.
5: Catch Hollywood legend Cate Blanchett back on the London stage
Cate Blanchett leads a hugely starry cast that also includes Sex Education’s Tanya Reynolds and The Crown’s Emma Corrin in this sexy, modern adaptation of Chekhov’s The Seagull. Our four-star review says this is one of the shows to catch this spring. “If those watching it have half as good a time as Blanchett is clearly having, that alone will justify the price of the ticket,” says our reviewer.
